As billions of AI agents begin transacting autonomously across global markets, they face a profound obstacle: there is no legal system designed for them. Machines can’t access courts, sign contracts, or rely on traditional enforcement. And the gap between their machine-speed operations and our human-speed legal systems is growing wider every day.
GenLayer was created to close this gap, by building the synthetic jurisdiction that intelligent agents need.
Today, we’re proud to unveil more than a new website. We’re launching a clear, unified brand that reflects the full scope of GenLayer’s ambition and the architecture built to support it:
- GenLayer: the core protocol and platform for Intelligent Contracts and AI-native consensus
- GenLayer Foundation: a nonprofit stewarding our transition to decentralized governance
- GenLayer Labs: our R&D engine (formerly YeagerAI), building the infrastructure to support agent-based systems
Together, these entities align around one bold goal: to build the legal layer for the AI economy and a global ecosystem to support it.
Why We’re Launching a New Brand Now
We are on the verge of an AI commerce boom. AI agents can negotiate deals and execute transactions in milliseconds, but if they hit a dispute, they have nowhere to turn..
Without a trusted, verifiable dispute resolution mechanism that AI systems will recognize and enforce, the growth of autonomous commerce is at risk. GenLayer exists to fill this trust gap.
What began as a technical breakthrough in AI-native smart contract execution has rapidly evolved into something far more ambitious: a global framework for programmable trust. A new legal foundation for intelligent agents, autonomous systems, and decentralized governance.
This brand launch marks an inflection point. It’s a sharpened signal of what GenLayer is, and where it’s going.
GenLayer is:
- A platform for programmable legal systems
- A protocol built for agents and humans
- A trust layer designed for intelligence, one that can handle ambiguity, reason in context, and operate at machine speed
“We’re building a global synthetic jurisdiction that has an embedded court system that doesn’t sleep, that’s super cheap, and that’s super fast.” — Albert Castellana, CEO, in CoinDesk
We believe GenLayer will become the legal layer of the AI economy, and this brand needed to communicate that, with clarity, coherence, and conviction.
Vision: Trustless Justice at Machine Speed
Eight billion humans have already broken the legal system. Now, billions of AI agents need one that works for them.
Traditional courts take 344 days on average, cost $100K minimum, and don’t operate across borders. AI agents can’t even access them. This legal mismatch threatens to fracture global commerce as machine intelligence proliferates.
GenLayer bridges this gap by building a decentralized digital court where AI consensus resolves disputes in seconds, not months.
Intelligent Contracts on GenLayer can interpret natural language, access real-time web data, and make subjective decisions autonomously. No lawyers. No oracles. Just programmable trust.
What We’ve Built So Far
Since emerging from stealth, GenLayer has rapidly moved from breakthrough concept to operational platform, laying the foundation for an entirely new class of decentralized infrastructure.
At the core of the protocol is GenVM, a Python-based execution environment built for Intelligent Contracts, and Optimistic Democracy, our decentralized consensus mechanism where validators powered by diverse AI models reach consensus through majority voting and a robust system of escalating appeals.
Together, these components enable the kind of subjective, adaptive decision-making that today’s deterministic blockchains–and certainly today’s legal systems–simply can’t handle.
The broader industry has begun to take notice. CoinDesk, VentureBeat, and Forbes have profiled GenLayer, underscoring its potential to become a foundational layer of the machine economy.
In parallel, we’ve been building an ecosystem to support our vision. We’ve announced partnerships with pioneering teams such as ZKsync, Atoma Network, and Caldera, collaborations that will enable scalable compute, decentralized inference, and high-throughput execution for a new generation of AI-native applications
“GenLayer operates as an AI-native trust layer - an independent system that ensures AI agents operate fairly in financial transactions, contract execution, and dispute resolution.”
— VentureBeat
What’s Coming Next
In the coming weeks, we’ll be launching our testnet, enabling developers, projects, and enterprises to start building the first generation of AI-native applications and agent-based commerce. Alongside the testnet, the Labs and Foundation teams will expand support for developers: enhanced SDKs and developer tools, expanded documentation and learning resources, deeper integration examples and libraries, and direct ecosystem and partner support. We’ll be onboarding early projects and working closely with teams building the first generation of AI-native dApps.
Our goal is clear: make GenLayer the default platform for anyone building autonomous agents, intelligent protocols, and AI-driven commerce systems.
Let’s Build the Future of Trust, Together
AI will transform how we create, coordinate, and collaborate, but without infrastructure for trust, this future risks fragmentation or capture by closed systems.
GenLayer is our opportunity to chart a better path. One where agents and humans can transact transparently, securely, and autonomously, at machine speed.
